Journals & Databases

Below is an alphabetical listing of databases. Search these for eBooks, videos, and articles from journals, magazines, and newspapers. Some individual journal titles are also listed. Arizona residents can access additional databases through the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records.

 

Academic Search Premier

A leading, multidisciplinary database covering 17,924 journals and magazines (4,642 in full text), including 16,035 peer-reviewed journals (3,873 in full text) — along with 75,000 videos from the Associated Press from 1930 to present on various topics, events, and famous people.

 

BioOne

Provides access to critical, peer-reviewed research in the biological, ecological, and environmental sciences.

 

Business Source Premier

A major business research database covering 6,768 journals and magazines (2,143 in full text), including 3,794 peer-reviewed journals (1,067 in full text), as well as company profiles, industry reports, market research reports, and SWOT analyses.

 

Cambridge Core

Search Cambridge University Press’s online platform for scholarly journals, eBooks, and reference works. Use the “Only search content I have access to” checkbox to search Cambridge Core’s open access articles and eBooks.

 

Christian Periodical Index Full-Text Journals and Magazines

The Association of Christian Librarians maintains this list of links to some full text of journals and magazines of interest to evangelicals. The individual titles may be searched through Google Scholar’s advanced search feature. To access that feature, click on the three bars at the top left in Google Scholar; and then click on “Advanced search” on the menu that pops out. Then enter the title of the journal or magazine that you want to search in the “Return articles published in” box; and then enter your search terms in the other box(es) under “Find articles.”

 

ComAbstracts

A database with focused, comprehensive coverage of the field of communication and journalism, indexing and abstracting scholarly books and 143 journals. Articles’ full text may sometimes be found in Communication and Mass Media Complete or Google Scholar.

 

Credo Reference

Credo is an easy-to-use tool for starting research. Gather background information on your topic from hundreds of full-text general and subject-specific reference titles, as well as 500,000+ images and audio files and over 1,000 videos.

 

Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)

This service covers free, full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals, covering all subjects and many languages.

 

eBook Collection (EBSCOhost)

EBSCO’s eBook Collection database includes over 220,000 eBooks on a wide range of subjects. About 20,000 of these eBooks can also be found through the library’s online catalog. The rest come from EBSCO’s eBook Academic Collection database.

 

EBSCO Open Dissertations

This database indexes over 1.4 million theses and dissertations from 1902 to the present, with some full text.

 

ERIC (Education Resources Information Center)

A fast-growing, education-focused database citing over 1.6 million journal articles, books, dissertations, conference papers, policy papers, curriculum guides, and other sources (with linked full text to over 680,000 documents).

 

GreenFILE

An interdisciplinary database of more than 1 million records (over 15,000 in open access full text) highlighting the connections between the environment and areas such as agriculture, education, law, health, and technology.

 

HeinOnline Academic

A package of more than 30 databases covering law, political science, criminal justice, history, economics, and related topics. Besides simplifying access to government documents, HeinOnline Academic offers innovative search tools and the full text of thousands of journals, books, and other publications.

 

HighWire

HighWire Press publishes many free or open access journal articles in science and medicine. Browse this list for journals covering your subject. Then click on the relevant journal titles and search their content from their websites.

 

Journal for Biblical Manhood and Womanhood (JBMW)

JBMW “is a semi-annual, academic journal dedicated to facilitating a scholarly conversation on gender, marriage, singleness, personhood, family, and the many intersections that exist between these topics and biblical studies, church history, and systematic and practical theology.” Full-text articles from 1995 to the current issue are available from the journal’s webpage. Browse journal articles (and other resources) in the Council on Biblical Manhood & Womanhood’s Resource Library or search the journal through Google Scholar’s advanced search feature. Journal of Biblical Integration in Business (JBIB)

JBIB publishes peer-reviewed articles discussing how a Christian worldview impacts business. Full-text articles from 1995 to present are available from the journal’s webpage. Journal of Communication and Religion

This full-text journal of the Religious Communication Association is a publication for the religious communicator and the communication scholar and includes reviews of current publications in the field of religious communication.

 

Journal of Markets & Morality

Journal of Markets & Morality is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by the Acton Institute for the Study of Religion & Liberty. The journal promotes intellectual exploration of the relationship between economics and morality from both social science and theological perspectives. Journal content can be searched from its website.

 

Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society (JETS)

JETS publishes conservative scholarship in biblical studies and theology. The Evangelical Theological Society’s website provides full-text articles of the Bulletin of the Evangelical Theological Society (BETS) and JETS from 1958 to about two years ago. The ACU Library has more recent issues of JETS in print. The journal can be searched through the Academic Search Premier database (Dec. 2012 to present) or through Google Scholar’s advanced search feature. JSTOR

A multidisciplinary, online library with deep coverage of important journals and over 6,500 scholarly, open access eBooks. Search JSTOR for past issues of important journals. The ACU Library subscribes to the following full-text JSTOR collections: Arts & Sciences I, Arts & Sciences II, Arts & Sciences III, Arts & Sciences VII and Religion & Theology.

 

LatAmPlus

This Spanish database provides full-text access to over 50 peer-reviewed and scholarly journals. To limit your search to free, full-text articles, select “Solo contenido externo” (“External content only”) before searching. Discover some of its best articles here.

 

Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts (LISTA)

This database provides indexing and abstracting for key library and information science journals, books, research reports, and more from 1960 to present. It also includes profiles of LISTA’s most frequently indexed authors, including which subject terms are most commonly applied to their articles and in which publications the author has been published.

 

New Testament Studies

This peer-reviewed journal covers the origins, history, context, and theology of the New Testament and early Christianity. Search its content in Cambridge Core (indexed Sept. 1954 to present; full text 2017 to 2019) or in Academic Search Premier (indexed 1994 to present). The ACU Library has New Testament Studies in print or microfiche 1954 to 2004, 2006, and 2011.

 

PsycARTICLES

A full-text database with deep coverage of over 100 psychology and behavioral health journals published by the American Psychological Association and two other publishers.

 

PsycINFO

With nearly four million records, this is the most comprehensive database for peer-reviewed journal articles and other sources on psychology and behavioral health. Coverage includes periodicals (over 2,500 journals, almost all peer-reviewed), books, book chapters, reviews, and dissertations. PsycINFO links to full text in other databases; but if the full text is not available, search for the article in Google Scholar or request it through interlibrary loan.

 

PubMed

PubMed contains more than 30 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books. Citations may include links to full-text content from PubMed Central and publisher web sites. For articles not available full-text in PubMed, search Google Scholar or the Academic Search Premier database or request them through interlibrary loan.

 

Regional Business News

With daily updates, Regional Business News provides comprehensive full text for regional U.S. and Canadian business publications (including titles from Crain Communications). Regional Business News tracks 239 sources (217 in full text).

 

Science.gov

Science.gov searches over 60 databases and over 2,200 scientific websites to provide users with access to more than 200 million pages of authoritative federal science information including research and development results.

 

Taylor & Francis eBooks

Search or browse a multidisciplinary database of over 1000 open access eBooks. This database also includes the Child & Adolescent Mental Health eCollection, a set of 98 eBooks great for topics in child development, behavioral health, family studies, psychology, and education.

 

Taylor & Francis Online

This multidisciplinary database includes open access content and over 1,490 full-text journals from the Taylor & Francis Social Science & Humanities Library.

 

Theological Journal Library Online

Use this database to search the content of some major conservative theological journals. Search by subject or Bible verse(s); or browse by journal title and author. Some of these journals are available full-text online through their publishers’ websites (see the Christian Periodical Index Full-Text Journals and Magazines list) or physically at the ACU Library. These journals can also be searched through Google Scholar’s advanced search feature. WorldWideScience.org

This website searches across science databases across the world and translates scientific research into users’ selected language. Some full text is available, along with a wealth of citations and abstracts.
