Maddie Shasky has been a high-level competitive athlete virtually all her life. Prior to coming to ACU, her identity was rooted in her sport and performance. But since arriving on campus, she’s been on a journey toward embracing her identity as a beloved Child of God.

At ACU, God has taught Maddie that her identity is not rooted in the things she does, but rather in her status as a follower of Christ.

Her search for a college scholarship to compete in a sport she loved left her disappointed . . . until God opened the door to ACU and provided her with a scholarship and an assurance that this was the plan He had for her.

That experience, and her spiritual growth since coming to ACU, has taught her that God’s plans for her are always better than her own. She is experiencing the freedom that comes from living her life completely surrendered to the Lord and what He asks of her.

Maddie is a humble student-leader who strives to love others the way that Jesus loves them. When she’s not in class, you can find her leading a Bible study for her freshman residents, serving on one of our advanced praise bands, or practicing with her acrobatics and tumbling team.

“ACU has given me the space to truly learn what kind of leader I am,” said Maddie. “I get to be unashamedly goofy and lighthearted, while equally balancing depth and authenticity. What I am doing on campus right now is preparing me for a lifetime of sustainable leadership, far after my four years here. I couldn’t be more thankful.”

We are so proud of student-leaders like Maddie who are dedicated to serving the Lord and loving others well!
