Arizona Christian University celebrated 47 graduates on Saturday, Dec. 9 in front of about 650 friends and family at the 2017 Fall Commencement Ceremony at the Phoenix, AZ main campus.
The program involved many Class of 2017 graduates, including ACU veterans leading the Pledge of Allegiance, Invocation by Erika Buffi, a reading from Scripture by James Riesing, and Benediction by Angelita Welch. ACU Music faculty, Juliana Witt, led both the processional and recessional on piano and Music student Kendall Hunkin sang “The Star Spangled Banner.”
ACU’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Senior Pastor of North Bible Church, Dr. Larry Anderson, shared words of inspiration and encouragement before presenting the candidates to proud friends and family members. “We are people of hope. We put our faith in the eternal. We are resurrection people. Because Jesus rose from the tomb, we know that life is never hopeless and the battle is never lost,” Anderson told the graduates.
“Today you wear the robes of academia. My prayer is that you will live your life robed in the light of Christ. And we must never forget who gets the glory – all glory and honor belongs to our Lord,” Anderson concluded.
After awarding the students their diplomas, Campus Pastor Tim Reed said a prayer of dedication over the students.
President Len Munsil delivered the “charge” to the graduates, challenging them with these words: “Never let it be said that at Arizona Christian University — our expectations for you our graduates are small, shallow, inconsequential, or mediocre. God forbid it.
“We expect you to contend for the faith, to speak the truth in love, and to transform all parts of culture with which you engage. We expect you to shine. God expects you to shine, as lights in the midst of this generation. We expect great things.”
Congratulations to the graduates and new members of the alumni family!
