Arizona Christian University is excited to announce the recipients of the second annual Homecoming Awards to be honored October 27 during ACU’s Homecoming and Family Weekend BBQ. The on-campus event will feature four award recipients, nominated by their peers. Each of the recipients embody ACU’s mission and have distinguished themselves by transforming culture with truth.

The 2017 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year is Mr. Aubrey “Bo” Horlen, class of 1973. Giving 32 years of his life to foreign missions, Bo and his family have worked diligently in spreading the Gospel in the Philippines. Since his retirement from the mission field in 2008, Bo has actively participated in his local church Mesa Baptist Church in Mesa, Arizona, where he has served an elder, and later Associate Pastor. Bo serves the body of Christ through his preaching, evangelism and discipleship programs, Sunday school teaching, and his leadership in church community efforts. He pours himself into his peers and younger generations, while not swaying from engaging cultural issues. Bo Horlen’s faith could be described as a relationship of love, deep trust, and a servants attitude toward God.

The 2017 Outstanding Young Alumnus of the Year is Captain Matthew (Matt) Moschgat, class of 2010. Matt, who serves as a United States Army captain, exemplifies servant-leadership in every aspect of his life, leading over 100 men and women as an Infantry Company Commander, while remaining a committed husband and father of three. He will be deploying to Afghanistan with his unit in early spring 2018 and will serve as ‘boots on the ground’ in the Middle East for more than nine months. Captain Matt Moschgat transforms culture with truth by honorably serving our nation and leading with a strong commitment to God, his family, and his country.

The F.I.R.E. Family Award is being given to one deserving mother and daughter team who exemplifies faith, influence, relationship, and excellence (F.I.R.E.) in their commitment and service to ACU. The 2017 recipients of this award are the Miller Family – Lyn Miller (Welcome Center Receptionist at ACU) and sophomore Business major, Ali Miller, who works as in a student worker capacity as part of the ACU Admissions team.

Toria Siemens, a senior Biology student and member of the ACU volleyball team, has been chosen for the 2017 Stormin’ Norman School Spirit Award. Toria has consistently displayed tremendous school spirit during her time at ACU that will be greatly missed when she graduates this spring!
